Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu to be temporarily closed for emergency runway rehabilitation… As Airpeace suspends flight at ai

The Federal Government has on Friday announced the temporary closure of the Akani Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, Enugu State for emergency runway repairs. 

This action is as a result of a sudden and significant rupture in the asphalt surface at a critical section of the runway. 

In a statement issued by Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, Obiageli Oprah who revealed that the  airport will be shut from April 22nd to May 6th, 2025, said this was in compliance with Nigerian civil aviation regulations.

“As part of FAAN’s commitment to passenger safety and the modernisation of airport facilities, the runway will not open for landings and takeoffs during the rehabilitation period”, she said. 

FAAN in the statement appealed to all airport users and stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation during this time, advising that all flights to the airport will be diverted to nearby airports, while also apologising for the late announcement notice. 

In a similar development, the management of Air Peace has also announced that all flights scheduled to Akani Ibiam International Airport Enugu are temporarily suspended due to safety concerns. The airline has further rerouted all Enugu bound flights to Asaba Airport.
